MiReKoc Secures Prestigious MSCA PhD Network Funding
We are thrilled to announce that the Migration Research Center at Koç University (MiReKoc) has been awarded funding as a partner in the esteemed Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network. This funding supports the EuroMedMig PhD Network, an interdisciplinary research initiative focused on migrations in the Mediterranean, coordinated by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona.
The EuroMedMig PhD Network aims to cultivate a robust community of leading early-stage researchers (ESRs) by promoting research excellence and adhering to core research principles. With a commitment to multilateral knowledge co-production, geographic representativity, and a plurality of perspectives and disciplines, this network represents a significant advancement in the training of the next generation of migration researchers.
Ten leading universities from around the Mediterranean have joined forces in this Doctoral Network, which focuses on three main pillars:
- Promoting research excellence.
- Developing advanced training for ESRs, including methodological, ethical, conceptual, and transferable skills training, as well as promoting inter-academic stays.
- Fostering policy and social dialogues through policy-oriented research capable of influencing both scientific and political debates, aligned with the EU’s Euromed agenda.
The network seeks to establish connections with relevant multi-scale stakeholders and produce impactful policy recommendations. These efforts will enhance the role of academia, particularly academic networks, in initiatives at the intersection of research, governance, and policy.
ESRs will have the opportunity to develop their individual research projects on themes such as governance, policies and politics, taxonomies of motions and drivers of migration, social and cultural transformations, and the economy and labor market. The quality of supervision and mentoring will be prioritized to ensure the successful progress of ESRs and to leverage their full potential.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Ahmet İçduygu and the MiReKoc team in securing this prestigious funding. This achievement underscores MiReKoc's dedication to research excellence and its pivotal role in addressing complex migration issues in the Mediterranean region. The first ECR applications to the project will start in the application period of Spring 2025.
