Awards and HonorsProfessor Ayşe Zarakol, recipient of the 2023 Koç University Rahmi M. Koç Science Medal, was recognized by the British Academy as one of the leading scientists in the humanities and social sciences and was elected to a fellowship. As a professor of international relations at the University of Cambridge and a fellow in politics at Emmanuel College, Ayşe Zarakol’s research lies at the intersection of historical sociology and international relations, focusing on East-West relations in the international system, the history and future of world order(s), conceptualizations of modernity and sovereignty, rising and declining powers, and Turkish politics from a comparative perspective.
Prof. Dr. Ayşe Zarakol's latest book, Before the West: The Rise and Fall of Eastern World Orders, published by Cambridge University Press in 2022, has already received many awards and proposes an alternative global history for Eurasia-focused international relations. With this book, Prof. Dr. Zarakol aims to present a new history of international relations, particularly to Western international relations experts. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Zarakol, whose research is internationally acclaimed, is also the author of After the Defeat: How the East Learned to Live with the West, published by Koç University Press (KÜY).
Founded in 1902, the British Academy selected 86 scientists as fellows this year, joining 1,700 of the world's most distinguished scientists supported by the Academy to date.
