The First indigenous heart assist device of Türkiye designed in Koç University

Science & TechnologyThe first indigenous heart assist system (İstanbul Heart – iHeart) of Türkiye designed by Prof. Dr. İsmail Lazoğlu, Biomedical Engineering PhD candidates İbrahim Başar Aka and Çağlar Öztürk at Koc University and Prof. Dr. Süha Küçükaksu from Bahçeşehir University Cardiovascular Surgery Department was successfully tested on a 90 kg pig in the CASE Laboratory at Acıbadem University.
Engineering design, analysis and manufacturing of the miniature and implantable heart pump has been completed in Manufacturing and Automation Research Center at Koç University. The developed system is considered as an alternative treatment for thousands of patients who suffer from heart failure and a shortage of donor organs.
