GSSE FINANCIAL AID OPTIONS

There exists a wide spectrum of financial aid and scholarship opportunities and packages for graduate students at the Graduate School of Sciences and Engineering. These include “KU Graduate Fellowship” funded by Koç University and “Project-based Graduate Scholarship” co-funded by external sources such as TÜBİTAK, EU, industry through projects, and Koç University.

KU Graduate Fellowship

KU Graduate Fellowship is a competitive MS and Ph.D. scholarship opportunity. Applicants having an excellent academic record and/or having high impact scientific publications are considered for KU Graduate Fellowship.

KU Graduate Fellowship includes the following stipend & benefits:

2022/2023 Academic Year Stipends (effective October 2022)

Ph.D. Students:

• Tuition waiver
• Monthly stipend of 10.000 TL
• Dormitory room
• Private health insurance (limited coverage)
• Meal Card
• Free HGS (Fast Transit Pass) car stickers for campus entrance
• Travel support (once a year, at a yearly determined fixed amount) to attend scientific events

MS with Thesis Students:

• Tuition waiver
• Monthly stipend of 5.000 TL
• Dormitory room may be offered to a limited number of MS students depending on the availability of resources
• Private health insurance (limited coverage)
• Travel support (once a year, at a yearly determined fixed amount) to attend scientific events

Project-based Graduate Scholarship

MS and Ph.D. students are accepted to participate in specific research projects funded by external sources such as TÜBİTAK, EU, or industry. The stipend varies depending on the project. Koç University provides the same benefits for all Project-based Graduate Scholarships.

• Monthly stipend  (depending on the project source; MS or Ph.D. study)

TÜBiTAK 2244 Industrial Ph.D. Program Scholarship

Within the scope of TÜBİTAK 2244 Industrial Ph.D. Program, Koç University is looking for Ph.D. students.

The TÜBiTAK 2244 Industrial Ph.D. scholarship covers:

• Tuition fee for a full-time Ph.D. program in Koç University
• Monthly stipend of 4.500 TL
• Dormitory room
• Private health insurance (limited coverage)
• Meal Card
• Free HGS (Fast Transit Pass) car stickers for campus entrance
• Travel support (once a year, at a yearly determined fixed amount) to attend scientific events

AI Fellowships

The AI fellowship is awarded to qualified MS and PhD students. Students follow the regular graduate school application process, there is no separate application for the fellowship. The fellowship candidates are nominated by the faculty and recipients are determined by a written exam and an in-person interview. The fellowship exam is a take-home exam testing basic math (probability, linear algebra) and programming skills.

TÜBİTAK BİDEB Scholarship

Koç University expects that all KU full-scholarship students should apply for the TÜBİTAK BİDEB graduate scholarship program. Students who receive the TÜBİTAK BİDEB scholarship will be responsible for providing all the requirements and paperwork related to the contract by themselves.

Tuition Waiver Only Scholarships

MS and Ph.D. students accepted with “Tuition Waiver” will be exempt from the yearly tuition fee. The tuition waiver scholarship does not include any side benefits.

Specific Scholarships for Current MS Thesis and Ph.D. students

Huawei Graduate Research Support Scholarship

The aim of the Huawei Graduate Research Support Scholarship program is the financial support of the students who are either full-time current graduate students at Koç University or who have been accepted by the related Graduate School into a Masters or Ph.D. program, and whose research will specialize in Information and Communication Technologies

Within the scope of the Huawei Graduate Research Support Scholarship, 2 different scholarships will be offered in the Academic Year 2020/21:

• 2 Support Scholarship for Master with Thesis Students of 1500 Turkish Lira per month for a maximum of 2 years (subject to satisfactory performance)
• 2 Support Scholarship for Ph.D. Students of 2000 Turkish Lira per month for a maximum of 4 years (subject to satisfactory performance)

If you are not a current Koç University student you can’t apply for this support until you are admitted and have completed 1 semester of your Master or PhD program.

Specific Scholarships for International Applicants

Turkiye Scholarships Doctoral Scholarships at Koç University

To receive the scholarship students need to do the following in parallel within the relevant application periods:

1) apply to Koç University using the online application system (apply.ku.edu.tr) and be offered admission, and

2) if offered admission, then create an application in the Turkiye Scholarships Application Portal and upload the required documents to activate the scholarship.

The Turkish Scholarships Doctoral Scholarship is only eligible for Fall semester international admitted students to Koç University’s Ph.D. programs. All countries are eligible for this scholarship.
