MS without Thesis

The faculties of Medicine, Engineering, and Administrative Science and Economics at Koç University are growing rapidly. Similarly, the number of faculties of Medicine, Engineering, and Administrative Science and Economics is rapidly increasing in universities outside Koç University. Through the Mathematics Non-Thesis Master’s Program, research connections between Koç University’s Department of Mathematics and these faculties will be strengthened. Students conducting research in topics that require advanced mathematical background in these faculties will be provided with the formation. As a principle, it is not possible for a student enrolled in the non-thesis master’s program to transition directly to the relevant Ph.D. program within the Institute. However, in cases where the student can meet the specified conditions for applying to the relevant Ph.D. program within the Institute, they may be considered for admission to the respective program.

Degree Requirements



Mathematics non-thesis master program consists of 10 courses of at least 30 credits, seminar course and term project.

Students are required to complete at least thirty (30) credits by taking at least ten (10) required and elective courses according to their areas of interest. Unless stated otherwise, courses are 3 credits. With the approval of their advisors, students can take a maximum of 3 undergraduate courses to provide a basis for graduate courses, and these undergraduate courses can be used to complete the course and credit requirements of the non-thesis master program.

In addition to the credit courses, students must complete the non-credit courses; MATH 592 - Term Project, MATH 590 - Seminar, ETHR 500 - Scientific Research Methods and Research and Publication Ethics, and ENGL 502 - Effective Writing and Presentation.

Conditions of Acceptance

  The students must complete at least 30 credits of course load including 2 compulsory courses namely Math 521 and Math 531, a graduation project and a non-credit seminar course.
  A course sequence (Math 504-506, Math 521-522, Math 531-532, Math 533-534 or Math 551-552) must be completed.

For admissions into the program the following requirements must be fulfilled.

  To hold a BS degree in mathematics, basic sciences, engineering or a related field.
  To be assessed adequate for the program by a committee consisting of faculty members in mathematics; the students will be interviewed by the committee, additionally the students may be asked to complete a written exam.
  To receive a score from the ALES exam, not less than 60, and also above the threshold suggested by the program coordinator and approved by the academic committee at Koc University.
  To take one of the English proficiency exams below, and to receive the minimal score indicated by the table or higher.
– Internet Based TOEFL: Minimum Score 80 (Exams taken in Türkiye must be carried out at the State Universities.)
– YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80

• The average grade point of mathematics courses must be greater than 2.7.
• To receive a score of 60 at least from the ALES exam.
  To take one of the English proficiency exams below, and to receive the minimal score indicated by the table or higher.

– YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80
