Computational Sciences and Engineering

MS without Thesis

The Computational Sciences and Engineering program is an interdisciplinary non-thesis program conducted with the participation of the Institute of Science and Engineering Faculty. Graduate students in this program learn modern and scientific computational methods and their applications in the fields of science and engineering. Success in addressing new technological problems and the challenging research areas they bring along requires learning intensive computational modeling and simulation-based problem-solving techniques. With the increasingly powerful computers significant experiments that are impractical in laboratories can now be simulated in a computerized environment, and the behavior of complex physical systems is better understood at the scientific level. The curriculum of the non-thesis master’s program will also be shaped by considering this.

Degree Requirements

Computational Sciences and Engineering non-thesis master program consists of 10 courses of at least 30 credits, seminar course and term project.

Students are required to complete at least thirty (30) credits by taking at least ten (10) elective courses according to their areas of interest. Unless stated otherwise, courses are 3 credits. With the approval of their advisors, students can take a maximum of 3 undergraduate courses to provide a basis for graduate courses, and these undergraduate courses can be used to complete the course and credit requirements of the non-thesis master program.

In addition to the credit courses, students must complete the non-credit courses; CMSE 591 - Term Project, CMSE 590 - Seminar, ETHR 500 - Scientific Research Methods and Research and Publication Ethics, and ENGL 502 - Effective Writing and Presentation.
