I feel privileged to have earned my PhD Degree in Koc University, such a unique university that values quality of both academic education and research. During my PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering program, which is a highly multidisciplinary one, I had the opportunity to collaborate with international scientists successful in their fields, as well as to apply different point of views on my subject of interest, with the help of my advisors that are experts on different fields. This collaboration resulted in papers published in internationally prestigious journals.
In 2010, I applied to “Computational Sciences and Engineering Graduate Program” at Koc University to pursue a master degree. I started the research program that has been led by my advisor, Assoc. Prof. Seda Keskin. During my master, I was working in Dr. Keskin’s Lab (Nanomaterials, Energy and Molecular Modeling Research Group) and we made significant contributions in the field of molecular modeling of nanoporous membranes and composite membranes. I then completed my Ph.D. at Koc University in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering in 2016. During my Ph.D., I received the scholarship from TUBITAK (“2211-C Öncelikli Alanlara Yönelik Yurt İçi Doktora Bursu”). The output of my research was highly productive. I am the co-author on 9 research and 3 review papers published in the peer-reviewed international journals. During my graduate years, I had a chance to attend many international and national conferences and to meet lots of colleagues. I took many great courses which improved my quantitative research skills. KOLT program was also very useful to improve my presentation skills. After completing my Ph.D., I joined Özyeğin University, Department of Natural and Mathematical Sciences where I currently serve as an assistant professor. I am now very excited to share my experience with my students. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to be a member of Koç Alumni, my dreams come true.
The quality M.Sc program in optoelectronics and photonics engineering at Koc university provided me the plateform to understand better the field of photonics and to prepare and equip myself with the knowledge and skills required for future challenges in photonics. I was particularly impressed by the well-qualified faculty and the course work structure, also the research facilities and international collaborations provide opportunity for conducting quality research. Being situated in amazing surroundings and state of the art buildings, Koc university offers healthy academic and social environment and excellent sports facilities. I enjoyed my M.Sc tenure at Koc university and ofcourse living in Istanbul was an amazing experience.
Yıldız Teknik Universitesi’ndeki -YTÜ çift lisans eğitimimin ardından 2013 yılında Koç Üniversitesi Bütünleşik Doktora Programı’na kabul edildim ve Prof. Dr. Özgür B. Akan danışmanlığında calışmalarıma başladım. Koç Üniversitesi’nin yetkin ve yarışmacı ortamı ile Prof. Akan’ın eşşiz motivasyonu birleşince YTÜ’nün vermiş olduğu temel muhendislik altyapısının üzerine analitik düşünme, probleme yaklaşma/çözme, üst düzey bilimsel araştırma yapma ve araştırma sonuçlarını evrensel düzeyde kabul görecek şekilde sunma gibi kazanımlara sahip olma şansına eriştim. Kısacası, Koç Üniversitesi’deki 4 yılım bana on yıllık ‘kaliteli’ tecrübe olarak geri döndü. Hayatımda yaptığım en doğru tercihlerden biriydi diyebilirim. Ocak 2018’de doktora tezimi başarıyla savundum ve Mayıs ayı itibariyle University of Southampton’da doktoralı araştırma görevlisi olarak çalışmaya başladım.
